Mountains, sea cliffs and fairy-tale rock formations on Scotland’s most famous island. Travel there privately in our Range Rover, with a local driver-guide and time to enjoy it properly.
The Isle of Skye is the largest island of the Inner Hebrides, joined to the mainland by the Skye Bridge. It is famous for its dramatic scenery: the jagged Cuillin mountains, the rock pinnacles of the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing’s strange landslips and the clear waters of the Fairy Pools.
Skye is around five hours from Edinburgh, so it is best enjoyed over a few days rather than in one long drive. On a private tour you see the island at your own pace, stop wherever you like, and travel through Glencoe and past Eilean Donan Castle on the way.
The places most visitors come to see, and the ones our driver-guides time around the light and the crowds.
A 50-metre rock pinnacle high above the Sound of Raasay. See it from the road, or take the steep path up for the famous view.
A landscape of cliffs, pinnacles and green plateaus, made by an ancient landslip. The road over the top has one of Skye’s best viewpoints.
Clear blue pools and waterfalls beneath the Black Cuillin. A gentle walk of around 20 minutes each way; non-slip shoes are a must.
A lighthouse on dramatic sea cliffs at the far west of Skye, and one of the best sunset spots in Scotland.
Skye’s main town, with its row of colourful harbour houses, cafés and fresh seafood. A natural stop for lunch.
Glencoe on the way north, a full day on the island and the Fairy Pools and Loch Ness on the way home. Your driver-guide sets the pace with you.
Leave Edinburgh in the morning and head west to Loch Lomond, across Rannoch Moor and through Glencoe, before reaching your Highland base for the night.
Cross the Skye Bridge after a stop at Eilean Donan Castle, then spend the day on the Trotternish peninsula and in Portree.
A morning at the Fairy Pools under the Cuillin, then back to the mainland and along Loch Ness before the drive home to Edinburgh.
Choose our three-day route, or let us plan a longer trip with more time on Skye and the islands. Every tour is just for your party and starts at your Edinburgh hotel.
Our most popular way to see Skye from Edinburgh. Glencoe on the way north, a full day on the island and the Fairy Pools and Loch Ness on the way home.
More time on Skye, or add Neist Point, Dunvegan Castle, the Glenfinnan Viaduct or other islands. We plan the route and book your hotels for you.
Nothing to pay to ask for a quote, and no obligation to book.
Many tour companies in Scotland sell seats on a shared coach — and that’s often what a travel agency in Edinburgh will book for you. Tycoon Tours is an Edinburgh-based tour operator in Scotland that runs every tour privately, in our own Range Rover with a driver-guide who actually lives here — so the day belongs to you, not to a timetable.
Your own vehicle and your own guide for the whole day. No strangers on board, no coach park, no waiting on anyone else’s schedule.
Thirteen years of Scottish history, folklore and local stories, told properly along the road by someone who grew up with them.
Linger where you love it, skip what you don’t. The itinerary bends around you — not the other way round.
A 4×4 Range Rover or executive vehicle, collected from your Edinburgh hotel door and returned there at the end of the day.
Portree, the main town on Skye, is around 230 miles from Edinburgh, and the drive takes around five hours each way without stops. We break the journey with stops in Glencoe and at Eilean Donan Castle, which is why we recommend at least three days.
It is possible, but we do not recommend it. You would spend around ten hours in the car and very little time on the island. Our 3-day Highlands & Isle of Skye tour gives you a full day on Skye without rushing.
Our 3-day Highlands & Isle of Skye tour starts from £1,850 per vehicle, excluding accommodation. Longer bespoke tours are priced on enquiry. Every price is per vehicle, not per person, and is confirmed in writing before you book.
The Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, the Fairy Pools, Neist Point lighthouse and the colourful harbour at Portree. Eilean Donan Castle, on the road to the Skye Bridge, is a favourite stop on the way.
Only as much as you want. The Quiraing, Portree and the Old Man of Storr can all be enjoyed from the road. The Fairy Pools are a gentle walk of around 20 minutes each way, and the path up to the Old Man of Storr is steeper and optional.
Please wear non-slip shoes with a good grip, as paths on Skye are often wet, muddy or rocky.
May, June and September usually have the best balance of long days, good light and fewer visitors. July and August are the busiest months. Skye is beautiful all year, but winter days are short and some roads can be affected by weather.
We can recommend and book hotels or guest houses in the Highlands and on Skye to suit your budget. Accommodation is not included in the tour price, and we confirm everything in writing before you travel.
From your hotel, apartment or guest house anywhere in Edinburgh, from Edinburgh Airport or from the cruise terminal. At the end of the tour we bring you back to the same door. Pickup from Glasgow can be arranged on request.
Our cancellation and refund terms are set out in full in our terms and conditions, so you can read them before you book.
Tell us your dates and how long you have. We’ll reply within 24 hours with a suggested route and one clear price for the whole vehicle.
